New Naked Barley 2.0 Zine!
New Barley Zine!
This free zine, Naked Barley 2.0, was produced in 2026 by the Culinary Breeding Network and researchers on the NIFA OREI naked barley project, (some of whom are also involved in the Value-added Grains Project) as well as chefs who participated in outreach events and contributed recipes! goal is to provide organic growers and consumers with healthy, environmentally friendly, and economically viable crop options. The NIFA OREI pro spent nearly a decade evaluating naked barley across the country for agronomic, food, feed, malting, and brewing performance, alongside food quality and
product development work. Many of the recipes included in this zine were
created by OSU team members or collaborator partners for outreach events

Funding

This project was funded in 2017 by the NIFA Organic Research and Extension Initiative grant, part of the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture: Grant number 2017-51300-26809. In 2020, a second grant, Developing Multi-Use Naked Barley for Organic Systems II was awarded funding: Grant number 2020-51300-32179. In 2023, a third grant was awarded funding: Grant number 2023-51300-40964.
